We have been really busy across various construction sites throughout the summer. We are lucky enough to be working with some amazing contractors – on whom we rely to make our projects a reality. So – a big thanks to Blero Construction, J&M Construction, Mallard Solutions & Turnkey Contractors for all the hard work.

We are thrilled to announce that our Scaffolding board house has been long listed for the 2022 @dezeenawards_

Selected from 5,400 entries from 90 countries to Dezeen Awards this year, our project is in the running to win an award later this year in the Sustainability categories. More information on the Dezeen Awards website: https://www.dezeen.com/awards/2022/longlists/scaffolding-board-house/

Repurposed scaffolding boards were used as the main structural element for this house extension and reconfiguration in Whitechapel. We explored a range of strategies to minimise waste and embodied carbon in this project, from the repurposed scaffolding boards for the majority of structure, to reused bricks, to salvaged internal fixtures and fittings to reduced concrete through pad foundations. Thanks to our wonderful clients in pulling this together, and to @fordhamconsulting for the structural design and TBS Contractors for the build.

This week, Gile was invited to give a presentation in Kingston University at the Net Zero Carbon: Architecture and Landscape for Climate Emergency Summer School. It was a pleasure to meet the attendees and discuss environmental design both in the context of our work in A-Zero Architects and in their home countries including Egypt, Lebanon, and Saudi. Wishing them the best for their two weeks in London.
