Within a stone’s throw of the Thames, this project comprises the full refurbishment, reconfiguration and extension of a 19th Century cottage.
The site is extremely compact and irregular, and the view toward the Thames is oblique. The project creates a series of visual and social connections diagonally internally and externally through the three levels of the site. A lower and an upper courtyard provide a split-level external space, whilst a tantalising view toward the Thames from the new upper level, is captured through a glazed corner dormer.
The project seeks to balance new and old, the original brick of the cottage retained and juxtaposed the new oak joinery, with natural light throughout.
